UPDATE July 2009, letter from the President:

In October of 2008, Critter Crossings Corp. had it's first real rescue crisis since it's origination in March of 2003 (incorporated in 2006); a parvovirus outbreak where nine dogs died, including my daughter's newly adopted, fully vaccinated, four year old therapy dog.  I vowed to myself and my family that if the rescue work I did ever affected us personally that I would close the (figuritive) doors of CCC.  That decision was made instantly and shortly followed by the Founder and President's husband filing for divorce for reasons related to the stress of animal rescue.

As a necessary, urgent matter I stepped down as a Board Member and acting President of Critter Crossings in order to handle personal matters related to the custody of my children and impending divorce.  Another animal welfare group stepped in and assisted in placing the remaining dogs in our care, carefully, into homes and finished off the treatment and care of our dogs.  That group is Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund and I highly encourage you to consider donating to their never ending effort toward ALL domestic animals (not just dogs); to do so visit, www.tazzyfund.com and follow the instructions from there.

Although I have resigned I am still an active participant and volunteer and have vowed to honor my community (by adoption contract on approximately 500+ dogs) that if ANY dog adopted through our group EVER needs to be returned, I will be here for that dog I originally rescued and placed, trustingly, into your home.  We have several dogs that remain in our care and need financial support, fostering and adoption in order to "close our doors" (again figuratively).

We appreciate genuinely and are humbled by the continued support of loyal sponsors.  Although difficult and at times feeling devastated, life must move forward.  It is time to branch out into the world and work for a paycheck (40+ hours a week from ALL of our volunteers never meritted our finances BUT our hearts are full and overflowing).

With this I close with the gratitude, humbled and ever so thankful to the point of awed at your support.  I intend to keep this website open to continue to assist animals in need, promote many other WONDERFUL causes and continue to help and educate in matters of animal welfare, just in a new and different capacity.  This being said, we are more than happy to courtesy list your dogs needing homes, promote your local events and fund raise on a case by case basis for your specific need (directly through YOUR cause, not ours).

I can be reached through crittercrossings.julie@gmail.com and 760-450-7720.

I can't stop caring, you never do, I just need to stop actively rescuing.

PRESS RELEASE; Critter Crossings Corp. (approved by Board of Directors, 2007)

Critter Crossings is an all age, all size, all breed dog rescue founded in March 2004 by our president, Julie Klingsberg and incorporated in January of 2006. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs.

Julie began her rescue experience by fostering other dogs for local rescues. Her first rescue of her own was a 6 year old Great Dane left at Fallbrook Animal Hospital because "they got new floors". This dog was in her care for nearly three months until a committed home could be found but once adopted, she went to the Humane Society and adopted an 8 year old Bernese Mountain Dog who had severe kennel stress, so much so that his paws and back end were chewed to bloody and his tail had a constant injury that bled due to being in such close quarters. And so it began, one dog at a time, until she realized she could do so much more by reaching out to the community for help.

Since that time, Julie has recruited a number of foster homes for the dogs – individuals or families who house, feed, and nurture the dogs into healthy, well adjusted canine citizens who are ready for adoption. Our fosters are passionate about dogs, and are people who take in dogs for a day, a week, a month, sometimes even the better part of a year, while the dogs are assessed, immunized, spayed or neutered, healed, socialized, trained and turned into the best canine citizens they can be.

Some rescues will only take particular breeds of dogs, and some rescues will only take animals which are identified as easily adoptable – young dogs, dogs with no overt medical problems - generally dogs that take pictures that people coo at and want to take them home instantly. We specialize in dogs that are considered hard to place; sick or injured dogs, dogs that lack basic training or socialization, dogs with shelter stress, or mixed breeds, special needs (blind, deaf or both) and seniors. The dogs that we take may not seem like the most logical choices of animals to rescue, but at the core of our vision is the ability to see potential, where others see an undeniable fate - EUTHANASIA. With love, time and care, each dog is given the chance to become adoptable. We are the safety net for dogs without hope, who otherwise would meet their end without a family to call their own. These special needs dogs are our passion. Where our passion would have us rescue every dog we could, we are limited by time, space, and money.

Critter Crossings is basically the underdog rescue and we will continue to do so... rescuing dogs that are deemed unadoptable by shelters and abandoned by their owners. Whether they come in for a week or two or for the rest of their lives, we commit to them, for life.

Julie

I hope this email finds you both well, especially after the fires this past fall.

Just wanted to give you and update on Tehya. She may have been a California Girl but now she is a Snow Bunny and Loves It! Everytime one of us goes outside she wants to go with us to frolick in the snow. She LOVES it. We throw her (very torn up) blue ball out in the yard and she bounds (as well as you can in 3' of snow) to get it. She'll stay out there for hours with me playing, not going far from my side, while I snowblow the driveway and other things taking time every little bit to throw the ball for her. She gets it then prances like she won the grand prize. She and Zeus are laying next to me while I go through my email this morning. Thanks again she is a wonderful addition to our family. I send pix again soon of her in the snow. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!   Phil

Dear Julie ~
Lola, Bandit and I are best friends.  I cannot remember my life without Lola in it, she is so sweet natured and dear.  When I awaken in the morning my eyes look for my treasure, thank you for such a wonderful family member.   Besos, Marky

Thanks again for all your help this morning. You really made an effort for me to feel confident in adopting this little guy. I really appreciate it.   I'll send more photos as he changes. Take care,      ~michelle
